Selecting the proper weight ball can make or break your game. The heavier the ball the more pins you’ll knock down. However, if the ball you are using is too heavy, it can be detrimental for high scores. It will have a negative effect for good balance, and proper balance is essential.
My suggestion is to practice with three different weight balls. Bowl at least three games using the various balls you have selected. By then, you should have the right weight in mind. Even though the balls are not fitted for your hand, you will still get the right idea for the weight you should be using. Remember, the heavier the ball the greater the pin action. You may want your spare ball to be a different weight, and that is perfectly fine. Perhaps a lighter ball for single pins may help with accuracy. If you are teaching someone to bowl, pass along this tip they will thank you!
